Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu revolves around the concept, taken from traditional Japanese JuJutsu, that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger, heavier opponent by using leverage and weight distribution, taking the fight to the ground and using a number of holds and submissions to defeat them.

It is a system of one-on-one ground fighting, where the objective is to achieve a superior position for joint locks, chokes and strikes. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training can be used for sport grappling and SELF DEFENSE situations. Sparring, commonly referred to as “rolling” within the Jiu-Jitsu community, and live drilling play a major role in training and the practitioner’s development. Jiu-Jitsu can also be used as a method of promoting physical fitness, building character, and as a way of life.

Jiu-jitsu began it’s evolution from the old and limited Japanese art of Ju Jutsu into a far more efficient and complete fighting system. Today, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is being spread worldwide thanks to Carlos Gracie Sr teaching his brothers, sons and grandsons. Professor Jason has blended his art of Kenpo JuJitsu which includes small circle ju jitsu, joint manipulation and pressure points with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. By doing this he has created his own blend and style of teaching which he calls The Full Circle Method otherwise known as Fulcrum, Lever and Base.

The Full Circle Method is what makes our teaching stand apart from from other academies. In addition to Traditional GI Training, we also offer No GI Training every Wednesday Evening for Kids and Adults and on Saturday Mornings for Adults again. Please check out our schedule page to see the times and days available for Kids Classes Ages (5-8), Youth Classes (ages 9-13) and Adult Classes.

Muay Thai

Muay Thai, which translates to “Thai Boxing” is the national sport of Thailand. Thai boxing “the art of eight limbs” is a mixture of strikes utilizing fists, kicks with shins, elbows, knees and clinch which makes 8 points of contact. Muay Thai is a combat sport that incorporates stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques.

Other than variations of punches as seen in western boxing (jabs, crosses, hooks, uppercuts), kicks, elbows and knee strikes are used in Muay Thai. Clinching, sweeps and throws are also used strategically in modern Muay Thai to make it an all-rounded combat art.  Due to the 8-point contact, the sport has proven to be one of the most effective stand-up striking arts and practiced by many mixed martial artists. Muay Thai became widespread internationally in the late 20th to 21st century when Western practitioners from Thailand began competing in kickboxing and events such as the UFC, K1 and Pride.

Our Students. Adults and Children, are taught how to utilize Muay Thai in self defense and competition. Muay Thai instruction is offered to children age 4 & up and to all adults. Please check our schedule to see what times and days are available for Kids (ages 4-6), Kids (ages 7-11), Youth (ages 12-14) and Adults.
